Needed more Cactus Juice, ordered it and it was shipped that day. Received a couple of business days later. Well packed. Arrived in good condition. Always happy with how quickly items ship from Curtis. Have used a stabilizing chamber from him for many years, one problem and he corrected it immediately. Returns calls and answers emails promptly. Ordered a couple of pints of Cactus Juice a while back and finally got around to stabilizing various types of woof (black locust burl, black walnut burl, white oak, black palm etc).  Everything went to plan, thanks to the clear and concise instructions on this site.  I'll definitely be ordering more juice for my next batch of wood.

Every now and then, you come across a business that provides great customer service, great follow-up, and an amazing amount of information. Turntex hits all the marks. The website gives all the information you need to get started (and quite a bit more). Curtis goes out of his way to provide unbiased information in an easy-to-read format. He's also a heck of a nice guy. I gave him a rush order (needed things in a hurry before leaving the country), and he came through with room to spare--not an easy thing for a small business. He'll keep my business in the years to come. Highly, highly recommended.

Hi my name is John Arnett and I have been making knives for over ten years now. Ok, let me be completely honest here, I don't normally leave feedback, reviews, etc... unless there is something I want others to know.  There is one exception to that though, and that is small businesses.  I have had my own home based business so I am more than willing to help out others when I can.  So I hope this helps.

 

Anyway... I have heard of this cactus juice for some time now and just recently finished making my vacuum chamber for it (which is not hard, but if you make your own please be aware of the massive stresses that the container has to deal with, copy someone else's design don't come up with your own), so I ordered a bottle of this "juice".  The first thing I tried in the "juice" was a small (3-4" cube) piece of maple that was a bit overly spalted (between punky and rotten).  I was not expecting much since the wood was pretty sad, but I wanted to know just how far this "juice" could go in stabilizing a piece of wood.

 

I followed all the directions and filled the container to about 1 inch over the piece, weighed it down with a huge socket, pulled vacuum on it and watched as it boiled and frothed and made the most bizarre bubble formations I have ever seen.  It took about two hours before all the bubbles stopped, I released the vacuum and let it sit for a few hours while I went around with the family.  When I came back I popped it into a toaster oven I modified with an electronic temperature regulator for a few hours.  When I pulled it out, I was rather disappointed because the "juice" that had leaked out was soft and squishy under the aluminum foil.  I still went ahead and unwrapped it and let it finish cooling hoping that it would harden once it cooled.  

 

It did and that piece of semi-interesting wood was now something that I could use!  It was harder than a solid piece of maple!  The "juice" worked!  This stuff was amazing.  It smells like the strangest bad smell that has ever crept into my nostrils, it's not a disgusting smell just a really odd, bad smell.  But for what it did to that piece of ... junk wood, I am sold.  I expected it to harden the wood up but I did not figure it would actually fill all the pores and tiny voids, I never expected it to fill voids any larger than a needle, it is only stabilizing wood not magically rebuilding it, for that you would need magic jell.  

 

I am sold on this stuff.  All the hype and all the praise that I have heard over the past year or so, is very well deserved.  Great job on this stuff Curtis!

To date, i've had great results with oak, ash, and spalted poplar. Adds much weight and strength to the wood. Takes a bit of practice to get the right results, but well worth the savings compared to buying stabilized woods. The customer service is knowledgeable and very responsive to any questions. Thanks

The 8 inch chamber is a beast and that is a good thing. It took a long time to get it but was worth the wait . I will be using it to stabilize woods for Beads of Courage boxes that I make for sick children.

I bought a stabilization chamber, juice, and dye.  Also bought the recommended best vacuum pump.  The chamber is very well made.  I knew nothing about stabilizing wood other than what I learned on the website.  The website is a great educational resource.  I did a batch of 5 pen blanks as a test this weekend and they turned out great!  Can't wait to use it more!  Also - my toaster oven was off by about 25 degrees, so pick up the thermometer too.  Thanks!

Small businesses usually start from a passion for doing something you enjoy, marketing a level of expertise or talent which you'd developed, or both. It's hard work, crappy hours, poor pay, and can be somewhat thankless when you're a small new guy. IF it pays off the rewards generally come much later.

Anyway, I received an email from Curtis Seebeck asking for feedback on an order (my first) I had placed several weeks ago. When I visited the turntex.com website there was a dialogue box which popped up informing me that order processing would be delayed while the staff was away. I wasn't in a mad rush and was thrilled that someone had taken the time to post the message for potential customers. I placed my order fully prepared to wait a bit longer.

Not only was my order processed right away, but it arrived quickly and in a neat and secure package as well.

My point is that I try to support local business where I can, but I'll settle for a small business anywhere if I'm confident they can deliver a good quality product at a reasonable price. I did my research and TurnTex met my standard. I'm happy with my experience and I'll be a repeat customer so long as my own business allows. I know the value of positive feedback and I hope sharing my experience helps others choose TurnTex; this is how small business survives and thrives. Wow this baby is solid and awesome.  I love it.  I'm glad I bought the 6"x12", I place a bell jar inside with various colored batches and swap them in and out.  I'm so glad I bought my stabilization chamber from TurnTex!

I haven't turned in a while, but I still have a lot of turning blanks, and a lot of them need this.  But the primary reason I bought this, was because I was restoring an old Stanley No 40, hand plane, and the knob and tote, were extremely weathered and none of my attempts to fix the wood helped.  Cactus Juice was the exact thing that they needed.  It's easy and straightforward to use and, since it's heat activated, you don't waste any, just pour the rest back into the container.  https://youtu.be/pbMl3WfDs80

I just stabilized my first couple of pieces using Cactus Juice. All the guidance on the Turntex website was so helpful; very pleased with the results, though I was surprised that I was still getting bubbles after five days! I did have a couple of questions during the process and Curtis was right there with clear concise answers - sometimes so quickly it was scary. I will be back!

I haven't used the product yet but the customer service is amazing!! I really appreciate the quick response.

I got the email that my Cactus Juice had shipped the day that I ordered it.  I’ve got handle scale blanks sitting in the vacuum chamber right now, so we’ll see if the product is as good as the service but if it is I know I will be satisfie.

Purchased the chamber from Turntex couple of years ago. So far ave used it to stabilize spalted, punky or porous blanks for turning pens. Works very welll and makes a world of difference in the blanks I can turn.

Curtis is very responsive, his website and YouTube channel are a great source of information for turners. Will definitely be back for more.

Purchased the Oven Tamer II for drying wood, and curing Cactus Juice. Couldn't be happier. The Oven Tamer does a perfect job of maintaining the set temperature, and as advertised when set at the proper temperature the resin stays in the wood, and doesn't leak out as much. Have ran several batches through now, and am very pleased with the results. Plus the safety factor of knowing the oven will not overheat and catch your wood on fire is the number one reason why I purchased this. The owner Curtis is very helpful, and quick to answer any questions you may have. The master of stabilization.

As they say, spend a little extra now or spend a lot later (like I did). Quality is worth it. These pots are so perfectly engineered, but it is the things you may not hear about:

• Superb customer service
• A detailed instructional manual
• A master of vacuum pump information for when yours sieze up
• The hose has quick--release fittings unlike others I have read about
• Anti-tip ring so it will stay secure on your bench
