I am making a tea ceremony tools. I had some Spalted Pin Oak that had got decayed to the point it was like a dry sponge, really past turning on a lathe. Years ago I soaked some of it in all kinds of things, let it dry, turn a little and repeated many times until I finely finished a bowl. To me a Pain in the...... but the rotted wood was unreal when turned and finished. I did several bowls this way and finely gave it up because it took so long to finish one. I had 3 large chunks left and I had wanted to try this stuff for a long time. 10 years later I did. Followed the directions and everything they say is true. Excellent results. It's very powdery when turning, dust collection is a must, but I can turn the whole thing at one time and the finish on the bowl for lack of the correct term just plain looks better. It has a surface that I couldn't get with the other ways I tried. I don't have a lot of money but I will be using more of this stuff because it makes turning half rotted wood easy and the bowls I've made with spalted/rotted wood get the most looks.

 I am a knifemaker and a maker of all the tools and contraptions to make them with.I make micarta and have wanted to get cactus juice for a long time,and recently ordered some.The juice is great I can't wait to get more ,I have so many ideas,not to mention piles of punky spalted wood!I only could afford a pint this time,so I wasn't a bulk buyer,but I feel like I got top notch service. I read through the Q&A a few times and googled a few things while I was rigging up my pump and chamber and I find the info thats on the site and all over the web is great,you personally answering questions.Alot of places will sell you something and then you're on your own.I will be a customer of yours.

I have been using Cactus Juice for about 2 years and i am my 3rd gallon. I use it Stabilize Alaska spalted birch and other spalted woods. This stuff works great and recommend it to other knife makers. the one hint i will give  is make sure the wood is dry like the Turntex says it does make a difference. One other thing that that is great is there shipping, living in Alaska that is huge and the fact the product is awesome it makes this a slam dunk

i am a first time wood stabilizer the website proveded perfect directions on how to do it.  As a knife maker I have worked with stabilized wood for many years but until know have never made my own.  Now I have my own supply of stabilized wood and its great.  Anyway the product works great it add a lot of fun to my knife making hobby.  I will definitely buy more.

Although it took some time to get the vacuum chamber delivered, I now very much appreciate the quality of the product and understand the time it takes to produce a fine product and to make certain it works properly. I stabilized some wood blanks and some oyster shells over the past few days (I make oyster knives, and use the shells cast in resin as the handle material), and the chamber worked perfectly and better than anything I have used before. Thank you Curtis and your team for your attention to detail and quality, and I will keep coming back to you guys for consumables and maybe other chambers in the future.

I'm new to making my own stabilized blanks and honestly Cactus Juice couldn't be any easier to use or clean up after with.  I love the fact that it's re-useable and doesn't require messuring mixing a 2 part solution.  I am so glad i came across this product mentioned in a YouTube how to video.

I have purchased cactus juice and dye, and am very pleased with both. I just started stabilizing my turning wood, and am still learning what works best, but this product, and all of the how-to's, make it pretty simple.

The thing I appreciate about Curtis is his interest in helping me make good choices. If I can't find the answer to my question on his web site, I know he's a phone call away and will share his experience and expertness in providing me with answers to my questions.

I'm new to both stabilization and casting and will be taking a week long class at Marc Adams School of Woodworking in September 2017.  I wanted to get a little head start and found the Turn Tex site after talking with the folks in their booth at the AAW Symposium in Kansas City. I was happy to find the help center and all the information freely provided by Curtis Seebeck. It wanted to get a little head start with some of the products so I ordered some Aluminite Resin and some of the Cactus Juice Resin to experiment. Everything I ordered was shipped out the same day.  In the help center documents I found out what vacuum pump I needed to buy as well as the recommended source for pressure tanks for casting. Really looking forward to a long relationship with Curtis and Turn Tex Woodworking.

 

I was concerned that paduak, being somewhat oily, would not cure properly. There's a caution about oily wood in the directions. Paduak is bright orange-red, and the color comes off if you rub the wood with rubbing alcohol. I tested a small piece is a little jar of cactus juice, and got good hardening. (Bacote worked too). The main batch was next--it turned the cactus juice deep orange, and since it's quite hard, and not so porous, it was still bubbling under vacuum after four hours (but definitely much slower than that initial foam-up shown on the video). I heat cured my blanks by vacuum bagging them and putting them in a temperature controlled water bath (mentioned in the testing section on the site, it's much easier to accurately measure the temperature of water than air, and the heat transfer is faster, and I already had it). That worked very well, even though a little water leaked in (next time, I'll knock off the edges and corners better so they don't poke through the bag). After a brief air dry, the wood was fine, and very clearly the resin had hardened. The wood was more resistant to splintering and stronger--I trimmed the blank 1/16" on the end grain to get it to proper length, and the cutoff won't snap in my hand, even though it's all short grain! Gluing together sections using Titebond III before curing worked just fine, as mentioned in the FAQ's. This product worked very well in my brief experience, and the large amount of information in the directions, how-to videos, FAQs and test results are very helpful. Great job!

Just had our 2nd transaction with Turntex, very fast reaction from the team, our order was shipped immediately, so fast that I came back immediately to correct my mistake on the shipping information but the items is already out. Nonetheless, all the items arrived after 5 days (that was fast considering we're in Asia), nothing was missing or broken considering how quickly they did the job, simply awesome! The items (Cactus Juice and dyes) came as advertised, they work great! Still a beginner in stabilizing, but, I believe we're in the right path with Turntex at our back.

Couldn't be happier. I had previously had a competitor's chamber I received on trade and I wasn't happy with the performance. Called Curtis, I expected a 5 minute phone call and instead received about 45 minutes of the man's time. He gave great guidance and answered questions honestly giving multiple options and viewpoints none of which were towards spending more or even pressuring ordering from him. I placed my order and a few weeks later received a custom built chamber that was as simple as could be to start stabilizing. Several batches in and I'm a happy camper.

I am pleased to provide this brief commentary with regard to my recent ordering experience with TurnTex Woodworks in that it has reaffirmed my belief that family owned businesses and personal integrity is well and alive in America and the Republic of Texas.

I was referred to TurnTex Woodworks by numerous members of the American Association of Woodturning (AAW) and the International Association of Penturners (IAP) as being the definitive source of information, help and, of course, products dealing with the process of wood stabilization.  I found a wealth of knowledge, and a store of quality products and merchandize in the form of Mr. Curtis Seebeck, owner and proprietor of TurnTex.  

The WoodTurning World is varied and vast in size with numerous vendors and homegrown businesses clamoring for attention.  Without regard to making a sale or not, Mr. Seebeck was able, based on my limited knowledge of wood stabilization, to provide me with information, product selections and reference material necessary to meet my needs and requirements.  His primary obligation, and that of TurnTex, is to provide their existing and prospective customers with the correct information to make intelligent choices without regard to personal gain, 

Would I return to TurnTex for additional supplies, information and guidance?  You bet.

Would I refer TurnTex to my colleagues in woodturning with the assurance that they would receive honest and correct information and high quality products?  You bet.

As far as Mr. Seebeck is concerned, I can only extend my best wishes for the continued success of TurnTex Woodworks and to a man whose personal work ethic is something we should all strive to achieve.

Ur-Water, LLC has a project for which we needed to use a stiff plastic as end plates for a plate-and-frame water treatment device. We settled on a fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP). When we tested the treatment device, we found that the FRP leaked like crazy under pressure. My consulting engineer remembered that Cactus Juice could be used to seal light porous wood, so we tried it for our application. It appears to have worked well. Although we have not yet fully tested the treated FRP, we are optimistic that Cactus Juice has solved this problem for us.
